A most lovely waltz I tried to perform myself. Like in every piece I first of all study the history of the composition before performing it – its ‘inner life’. I was quite surprised to find out that it was actually being composed when Macedonio Alcalá had just lived through an economic crisis and was at risk of death. Moreover, the cheerful and upbeat mood of the work was hard to refer to the pain of the migrating Mexican people. Notwithstanding, that’s an amazing and pleasant work to perform.
